Join RISE UP, CAOPA (African Federation of Professional Organisations of Artisanal Fisheries), CFFA (the Coalition for Fair Fisheries Arrangements) and the Stop Funding Overfishing Coalition for a global webinar on “Strengthening Small-Scale Fisheries Engagement in WTO Fisheries Subsidy Agreement Implementation".
This session served as an information-sharing platform to build a shared understanding among small-scale fisheries (SSF) leaders, organizations, policymakers and partners on the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies—what has been agreed, what is still under negotiation and what it means for SSF.
Participants explored the need for additional rules beyond the 2022 agreement to address broader issues of overcapacity and overfishing, while also discussing the importance of supporting small-scale fisheries through appropriate subsidies and infrastructure. The conversation ended with discussions about the FISH Fund's establishment and objectives, including its recent call for proposals and future plans for supporting developing WTO members in meeting their commitments under the agreement.
