RISE UP is a global network connecting civil society, community-led organizations, small-scale fishers, Indigenous Peoples’ organizations and ocean advocates. We work together to strengthen collective action and influence ocean policy from local to global levels.
Ocean equity means ensuring that the people and communities most connected to and dependent on the ocean can meaningfully participate in decisions that affect their rights, livelihoods, cultures, and marine environments. It is a principle that runs across RISE UP’s work.
The Blue Call to Action is the shared vision that brought RISE UP together. It sets out priorities for protecting and restoring the ocean while advancing more equitable and inclusive ocean governance.
RISE UP works across four interconnected areas: High Seas & BBNJ, Small-Scale Fisheries, Deep-Sea Mining and Ocean & Climate. Members can engage in one or more areas depending on their work and expertise.
RISE UP welcomes civil society and community-led organizations, small-scale fishers’ groups, Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, grassroots movements, research institutions and NGOs that support the principles of the Blue Call to Action.
Yes. There is no membership fee to join the RISE UP network.
Members can connect with organizations across the network, join policy and strategy discussions, participate in RISE UP focus areas, access advocacy resources and share their work through RISE UP platforms.
RISE UP brings members together around shared priorities and key policy moments through briefings, strategy sessions, advocacy resources, joint initiatives and opportunities to engage in national and international processes.
RISE UP is supported by philanthropic partners, including the Oceano Azul Foundation, The Waterloo Foundation and Oak Foundation. The Ocean Foundation serves as RISE UP’s fiscal host.
The Navigator is RISE UP’s monthly newsletter, sharing ocean policy updates, opportunities, events, resources and stories from across the network.
